Now that I think about it, what if they introduce a concept like democracy in the nations? What if some people in the game would earn the right to lead the nation to fight against other nations in a constant desire to get as much land as possible?
This is VERY interesting, to me.
While I wouldn't want the entire game to turn into a gigantic popularity contest, where a player could get elected to office and end up being a complete buffoon (we have enough of that in reality). But I do remember being excited to read the FFXI chatlog updates every Sunday morning, about the beastmen/player struggle for control of different areas and regions.
Maybe there could be a similar feature in FFXIV, where players could nominate other players for office (similar to the marriage applications of FFXI). Players who were thus 'elected' (by some means of voting) would show up in discussions via an in-game newspaper or bulletin board, that we could read at our leisure. Stories of the Eorzea government goings-on, with real in-game players' names giving the whole thing a taste of familiarity. We'd read the news about 'PlayerX' being named to lead the charge into 'AreaB' this week, and we'd be like "Hey! I know that guy. I partied with him last Tuesday!".
Just an idea. I think it could add a fun, personal dynamic to this game. Worth thinking about.
Very interesting. And like you said, if done with ballance it could add a whole level of intregue into the game. Even if it wasn't player run, but some sort of system where players effect the state of the nation and can take place in elections. Ether NPC or player based.
ReplyDeleteIf players were elected into office perhaps they could effect the taxes, and other things and laws around the nation controlled lands :)
